Sevier County, Tennessee (April 16, 2024) – Melissa Godfrey was sworn in at the Sevier County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, April 15th to fill the vacancy of District 9 Seat B. Nominations for the vacant seat were accepted on Monday, April 8th at the Steering Committee meeting, as well as in person at the County Commission meeting in accordance with T.C.A. 5-5-111. Melissa Godfrey was the only nomination received and was unanimously voted to fill the vacant seat by her late husband, Chuck Godfrey, who passed away earlier this year.

"We are honored to have Melissa fill the seat of her late husband, Chuck Godfrey," said Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters. "While having to fill the seat isn't something that we want to have to do, we are honored to have Chuck's wife serve in his place. We know that he would be so proud of her."
